Slowwves Release Music Video for New Single “Killed by Egoistic Disease”—Embracing a Darker Sound with Goth, Grunge, and Nu-Metal Influences

Bangkok, Thailand-based shoegaze trio Slowwves released their new single “Killed by Egoistic Disease” on August 17, accompanied by an official music video.

Formed in 2023, Slowwves consists of Iya Ngoentaweekoon (Jill, vocals/guitar), Juckapob Lamulpak (Peem, guitar), and Pawaris Chotnikhom (Jump, drums). The band released their debut single “Anywhere Else” in 2024, followed by their debut album “Perfect Evasion” in 2025. Drawing influence from Slowdive, Mazzy Star, Megumi Acorda, and Zweed n' Roll, Slowwves have developed a sound built around reverb-drenched guitars and ethereal vocals, where dreamlike textures intersect with a sense of decay.

With “Killed by Egoistic Disease,” however, the band takes a sharp turn into heavier territory. The track opens with pounding drums and a thick bassline before aggressive, heavily distorted guitars come crashing in. Jill's vocals retain their deep melancholy while taking on a more emotional intensity, eventually erupting into a powerful scream in the latter half of the track. Built on a shoegaze foundation while incorporating elements of goth, grunge, and nu-metal, the song marks a darker and more aggressive direction for the band.

A look back at Slowwves' live session for CD COSMOS offers an intriguing clue to this shift. Jill's guitar was covered in stickers representing Korn, Alice in Chains, The Misfits, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, and HIM. These diverse musical influences provide an interesting glimpse into the roots behind the band's evolving sound.

“Killed by Egoistic Disease” marks a new step for Slowwves, moving beyond their dreamlike shoegaze toward something darker, heavier, and more confrontational. It will be interesting to see how this new direction develops in the band's future work.
