Kyoto Shoegaze Band sheeve Share Video for “Just a Gaze,” Debut Album Due This Summer

Kyoto shoegaze band sheeve has unveiled the music video for “Just a Gaze.”

Formed in Kyoto in 2023, sheeve consists of Naoko Yutani (guitar/vocals), Akihiro Koyama (guitar), Gaku Murakami (bass), and Yuma Kowada (drums). With backgrounds in bands rooted in alternative rock, hardcore, post-punk, and orchestral punk, the members bring a diverse set of influences that helps define sheeve’s unique musical identity.

Across their first four singles, sheeve explored a heavier sound shaped by hardcore and grunge influences. With “Just a Gaze,” however, the band moves closer to a dreamier and more atmospheric form of shoegaze. Delicate vocals from Naoko Yutani drift across layers of shimmering guitars, creating an immersive sense of weightlessness. As the song unfolds, its heaviness gradually shifts into a higher gear, with dense walls of distortion amplifying the contrast between its fragile beauty and overwhelming intensity. The result is a track that reveals a compelling new dimension of the band's sound.

The accompanying video further enhances the song's dreamlike atmosphere. Filmed in a sunlit grassland, the band performs amid bright natural scenery while visual effects that ripple like reflections beneath water lend the footage a hypnotic, floating quality.

Their debut album is scheduled for release this summer. More details will be announced via the band's social media channels.
