the neverminds – Biography

Formed in Toronto in 2022, the neverminds are a shoegaze band led by vocalist and guitarist Ginny Kim. Drawing inspiration from Japanese shoegaze and dream pop, the band has gained recognition for its shimmering guitar sound, blue-toned visual aesthetic, and cohesive storytelling that connects its music and imagery.

Their debut releases, "nevermind, the summer" (2023) and "nevermind, the winter" (2024), explored contrasting seasonal themes through distinct emotional and sonic landscapes. The records earned the band a growing following not only across North America but also in Japan, China, and other parts of East Asia.

The band's first Japan tour in 2024 featured seven performances across Nagoya, Shizuoka, Yokohama, and Tokyo. Along the way, they shared stages with prominent Japanese shoegaze and dream pop acts including herveil, softsurf and Blurred City Lights, strengthening connections with Japan's independent music community.

Beyond the band itself, Ginny Kim and Vincent Hau also run Toronto's DIY collective Loveless Collective. The collective organizes the annual Loveless Festival, welcoming both Canadian and international artists such as Bubble Tea and Cigarettes and Bleary Eyed, while fostering a community that bridges shoegaze, noise rock, hardcore, and other corners of the independent music scene.

The band is currently working on a new EP, and the upcoming Japan tour may offer audiences an early glimpse into this next chapter.
