Sadness Shares Live Performance on KEXP — The Embodiment of Blackgaze Melancholy Steps Into the Spotlight

Sadness has shared a live performance on KEXP.

Based in Baltimore, the blackgaze band began as a solo project led by Damian Anton Ojeda before evolving into a full-band format. Following their debut show on May 31, 2024, they have since entered a new phase of live activity, with this session capturing their current form.

A key highlight comes in the seamless transition from the outro of “Early Autumn” into “In The Distant Travels,” one of the project’s most beloved tracks, where shimmering tremolo guitar lines collide with anguished screams. The closing piece, “Blue,” pushes the tempo and intensity upward, as Damian and Alexandria’s passionate clean vocals intertwine, culminating in a dramatic and expansive soundscape. The set effectively captures the essence of Sadness, distilling their emotional and sonic range into a concise performance.

An interview segment is also included toward the end, touching on the move to Baltimore, the formation of the current lineup, and the members’ diverse musical backgrounds. In addition to Sadness, Damian remains active across multiple projects, including Life, Trhä, and Home Is In Your Arms, while other members are similarly involved in various bands—worth exploring alongside this release.
