The Moon and the Nightspirit Unveil New Album ‘Seed of the Formless’—Hungarian Ethereal Folk Reaches New Heights in Post-Metal
Hungary-based ethereal folk duo The Moon and the Nightspirit have announced their eighth studio album, “Seed of the Formless”, due April 17, 2026, and shared a visualizer for the lead single “Cosmic Seed.”
The Moon and the Nightspirit was formed in 2003 by Ágnes Tóth (vocals, violin) and Mihály Szabó (guitar), and has released seven albums to date. Their work blends Ágnes’s delicate, ethereal vocals and expressive violin with Mihály’s poetic acoustic guitar and dynamic percussion reminiscent of ancient rituals, creating a fantastical soundscape inspired by mythology and nature worship.
On “Seed of the Formless,” the duo expands their palette with heavier guitars and synthesizers, exploring an atmospheric post-metal direction that suggests a cosmic, expansive scale.
The shift toward a heavier, more metallic sound may come as a surprise to some listeners. However, the duo previously performed in the gothic metal band Even Song during the late 1990s and early 2000s, making this exploration of metal textures a long-awaited development for longtime fans familiar with their roots.
Listeners who enjoy artists such as ISON, Shedfromthebody, or Sylvaine may find much to explore in this release.
