Sylvaine Announces First Japan Performance — Blackgaze meets Nordic Folk Pioneers Live at Shimokitazawa ERA on April 13, 2026

The Oslo, Norway–based blackgaze project Sylvaine will make its first appearance in Japan on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Shimokitazawa ERA in Tokyo.

Founded by multi-instrumentalist Kathrine Shepard, Sylvaine weaves together serene acoustic passages informed by the spiritual undercurrents of Nordic mythology with bleak yet lyrical strains of black metal. Through this contrast, the project has developed an aesthetic often described as a crossover between Nordic folk sensibilities and blackgaze, balancing intimacy and devastation within a singular sonic vision.

The project’s artistry has also been recognized by pioneers within the genre, with Neige of Alcest contributing guest performances and drumming on select releases. To date, Sylvaine has released four full-length albums, two of which were nominated in the Metal category at Norway’s Spellemannprisen—often referred to as the country’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards—underscoring the project’s growing stature within the Nordic music scene.

This first Japan show offers a rare opportunity to experience Sylvaine’s singular soundscape up close, where serenity and chaos, light and shadow, intersect in a deeply immersive live setting.
