nagisami Unveils the Video for New Single “higan”—A Heavy Shoegaze Track Exploring Liberation from Attachment

nagisami, the solo project of Kouki Yoneda, has released the music video for its sixth single, “higan.”

Yoneda offers the following comment on the release:

“higan” released as nagisami’s 6th single, is a word deeply rooted in Japanese culture, often associated with the afterlife. In English, it is sometimes translated simply as “the other shore,” but more profoundly it suggests a spiritual state of crossing beyond this world. This work, however, is not about actually crossing over to that far side. Rather, it is an attempt to recognize our present location, here and now, by becoming aware of the wavering surface between this shore and the other, and by acknowledging the existence of the far side.In doing so, the song seeks to express a sense of liberation from attachment—beyond even emotions such as sorrow or rapture. It is not about denying these feelings, but about seeing through them and stepping into the subtle gradations that lie in between. It is a song about gazing at the blurred outlines in the mist without crossing, and quietly listening—choosing that still attitude instead.I wrote the base and the plot of the lyrics last year in India, standing before the majestic Ganges River.I later shared that plot with Mako, who beautifully completed it into the final lyrics and gave the song her powerful, heartfelt voice.I am deeply grateful for her wonderful vocal performance.

Featuring vocalist Mako, the track weaves heavy guitar textures with wave-like, luminous vocals, fusing softness and force into a dense shoegaze sound. nagisami is also preparing to release a long-awaited debut EP, with demo material currently available on Instagram. Further developments are well worth watching.
