White Flowers Unveil the Video for “Tear”—A New Direction Inspired by “Sad Dance Music”
White Flowers, a dream pop duo based in Preston, UK, have released the music video for their new single “Tear.”
The duo, consisting of Joey Cobb and Katie Drew, have previously been characterized by shadowy and ethereal soundscapes that blend dream pop with elements of post-punk and trip-hop. On this track, however, they retain their hallmark sense of delicate melody while shifting toward a more dance-oriented approach, incorporating a buoyant four-on-the-floor beat.
Regarding “Tear,” they commented as follows:
“We’ve always found ourselves drawn to the idea of sad dance music, and ‘Tear’ feels like it’s a culmination of that fascination. It’s an attempt to capture a very specific feeling, the energy of tragic euphoria. An energy that can change for everyone who listens and even change multiple times within those listeners. It is a space where you don't know whether you are happy or sad, and it doesn't matter, you are just in the moment.”
This newly presented stylistic shift appears to serve as a precursor to their forthcoming album. Fans of Ghostly Kisses and deary are encouraged to take note.
