Novembre Returns After 9 Years with ‘Words Of Indigo’—Watch the Lyric Video for “Your Holocene”
Italian gothic metal band Novembre have announced the release of their first new album in nine years, “Words Of Indigo,” alongside the unveiling of a lyric video for the lead single “Your Holocene.”
Centered around brothers Carmelo Orlando (vocals/guitar) and Giuseppe Orlando (drums), the band have drawn attention since their 1994 debut “Wish I Could Dream It Again…” for a distinctive sound that blends atmospheric doom/death and gothic metal with progressive elements. In the 2000s, they signed with Peaceville Records and released “Materia” (2006) and “The Blue” (2007). Following a period of inactivity, they returned with “Ursa” in 2016, reaffirming their position within the scene.
Their richly textured sound—imbued with new wave romanticism, progressive structural finesse, and post-rock scale—continues to resonate with listeners. The contrast between delicate clean vocals and ferocious screams, alongside weighty yet lyrical guitar harmonies, lends their music a presence that has often been cited alongside acts such as Alcest and Opeth. Regarding the lead single “Your Holocene,”
Carmelo Orlando commented as follows:
“The main riff of this track is deeply rooted in the ‘80s, whether AOR or pop-rock. It’s hard to say exactly where it has sprung from, but I just know it’s extremely catchy — a true earworm. This song practically wrote itself — its structure was ready within a couple of hours. The lyrics describe a primal soul, coming from a distant era - raw, rough, yet pure. A state of being in which many people are forced to live their existence, trapped with no way out, unaware of their rarity, purity, and yet, capacity to cause harm.”
The long-awaited new album “Words Of Indigo” is set for release on November 7, 2025, via Peaceville Records, with artwork once again created by Travis Smith. The November release—subtly echoing the band’s name—adds a thoughtful touch that longtime listeners may appreciate.
Fans of Alcest, Opeth, and Katatonia are encouraged to take note.
