The Florist Covers Electric Youth’s “Runaway” in Dream Pop Style
Tokyo-based alternative rock/shoegaze band The Florist have unveiled a cover of Electric Youth’s “Runaway,” originally by the Canadian synthwave duo.
The Florist are a band defined by a distinct aesthetic that fuses shoegaze, emo, post-punk, and new wave into a romantic sonic palette. On their previous release “IN CVLT,” they drew listeners in with a more aggressive approach shaped by emo and hardcore influences.
For this cover, they boldly reinterpret Electric Youth’s upbeat dance track through The Florist’s own lens, recasting it as a dream pop–leaning piece built on sweet vocals and delicately textured guitar tones. The result offers a clear glimpse into the breadth of their influences. In addition, The Florist are set to release a new original song on October 18, with further updates anticipated.
