An Empty City release new single “cyanide”—metalcore, shoegaze, and breakcore converge in a genre-blending evolution

Guangzhou, China-based metalcore band An Empty City have released their new single “cyanide.”

The track features Aurora Sky—also known for appearances on music from Arknights: Endfield—and further develops the band’s blend of metalcore and shoegaze established on their fourth album “a lucid dream last night.”

Opening with a blend of breakcore and spoken word poetry by Aurora Sky, the song shifts into high-energy metalcore. Following a melodic chorus characterized by melancholic heavy shoegaze and clean vocals, the arrangement incorporates Aurora Sky’s ethereal singing before concluding with a massive breakdown. This borderless approach across multiple genres highlights the band's ongoing evolution.

Fans of Loathe, fromjoy and 2beef should check this out.
